Trainers v Behaviourists?
Trainers v Behaviourists? As behaviourists we diagnose the root cause of why dogs behave as they do and then devise a remedial programme in order to overcome unwanted behaviour in the dog. We work with owners to help them understand their dogs better and give ongoing support as they implement whatever changes and exercises are required to improve their relationship with their dog and their dog's behaviour. Our goal is always to achieve a successful outcome.
In other words – whereas a “trainer” might advise a way of controlling the behaviour, the behaviourist addresses the cause of the behaviour.
We have excellent working relationships with many vets in our area who regularly recommend us and refer their clients to us for behaviour problems as well as puppy socialisation classes.
We offer private consultations, each lasting about two hours, that enable us to comprehensively diagnose the cause of unwanted behaviour with an holistic approach.
Behaviour therapy for dogs is a relatively new science but the cause of its rapid acceptance is through the incredible results that are achieved sometimes within days. There can be many reasons why our dogs might display certain unwanted behaviours, and many problems are symptomatic of other factors in a dog’s life; history, breeding, out-dated “training” techniques, diet, or simply our misinterpretation of the behaviour. The pace of modern life is much faster and more competitive than it ever used to be and we humans are all too aware of our own stress related illnesses. Yet our canine friends are left to absorb all the stresses and strains of our moods and emotions and are always there ready to greet us with their boundless enthusiasm and unconditional love.
